Red Heart Super Saver Yarn
Kitchen hand towel
1 1/8 inch button
Hook size 5.0mm (H-8)
Sharp darning needle
Sewing needle/sewing machine for basting a hem and attaching the button.
Gauge is not super important, just make sure to use a hook that is recommended for the yarn you use.
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
dc2tog = double crochet two stitches together
hdc = half double crochet
sc = single crochet
sc2tog = single crochet two stitches together
sdc = standing double crochet
sk st = skip stitch
st = stitch
WS = wrong side
yo = yarn over
-note- rows 2 and 3 make up a star stitch
Cut purchased dish towel in half. Fold over about a 1/8 seam allowance, and run a baste stitch to hold.
With 5.0mm (H-8) hook, ch 56 and leaving about a 2 yard tail cut.
With a sharp darning needle, blanket stitch the chain onto one of half of the towel just below the turned hem, making 55 spaces.
Row 1 (WS): Ch1 and sc in first space, sc across the next 54 spaces. Ch2 and turn (55sts)
Row 2: Pick up loop from front strand of 2nd chain from hook, then pick up loop in the back strand of same chain; pick up a loop from the next 3 stitches, yo and pull through all 6 loops on hook, ch 1 to close the beginning star stitch. * pick up loop in the eye of the last star stitch, pick up loop from the last leg of the previous star stitch, pick up loop from the sc that the last star stitch was made, pick up a loop from each of the next 2 stitches, yo and pull through all 6 loops on hook, ch 1 to close stitch *; repeat from * to * across, ending with a hdc in the last st. Ch 1 and turn. (27 star sts and 1 hdc)
Row 3: Sc in the hdc, sc in the first eye of the star st, * 2 sc in the next eye of the star st *; repeat from * to * across end with a sc in the last st. Ch 3 and turn. (55 sts)
Row 4: *Sk st, dc 1*; repeat from * to * across; end dc 1 in last st. Ch 1 and turn. (28 sts)
Row 5: Sc 28 across. Ch 3 and turn. (28 sts)
Row 6: *Sk st, dc 1*; repeat from * to * across. Ch 1 and turn. (14 sts)
Row 7: Sc 14 across. Ch 3 and turn. (14 sts)
Row 8: *Sk st, dc 1*; repeat from * to * across. Ch 1 and turn. (7 sts)
Row 9: Sc 7 across. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 10: Sdc 1, dc2tog in the same st, ch 2 and sk 3 sts, dc2tog in next st, dc 1. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 11-22: Sdc1, dc 5. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 23: Ch1, sc2tog, sc 2, sc2tog. Fasten off.
Weave all ends in. Sew on button.
