Cute as this is; I added a letter denoting the baby’s last name. I used the lower case letter P from Moogly’s blog (http://www.mooglyblog.com/lowercase-alphabet/), changing the hook size to 3-3.25mm (D-4) creating a tight gauge. I also added rows 12 and 13 instead of stopping at 11 to make the opening a bit bigger. This change brought the entire size down to fit on the newborn cap.

Pants:
-note-: ch 1 at beginning of every round does not count as sc; it is simply to bring the first stitch to the correct height.

Round 1: Ch 48, form into a circle beginning careful not to twist, attach with a sl st to first ch. Sc in same st as connection chain, sc 47. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (48 sts)
Round 2 – Round 5: Ch 1, * FPSC, BPSC *; repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to first FPSC. (48 sts)
Round 6 – Round 25: Ch 1, sc 48. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (48 sts)

Gusset:
Row 1: Ch 1, sc 24, (place marker on next st), turn.
Row 2: Ch1, 2 sc in each of the next 3 sts, turn.
Row 3: Ch1, sc 6. Fasten off leaving tail long enough to sew those 6 sts.

Attach with white with a sl st with right side of work facing you at marker; repeat gusset rows 1-3 for second side. Turn work to wrong side and sew the 6 sts of each side together forming the crotch.

Legs:
Round 1: Attach white with a sl st in beginning st from gusset row, ch 1, sc in same st, sc 20 more stitches. Sc 4 along the gusset edge. Join with sl st to first sc. (25 sts)
Round 2 – Round 7: Ch 1, sc 25. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off white. (25 sts)
Round 8: Attach red with a sl st, ch 1 and sc in same st, sc 24. Join with sl st to the first sc. (25 sts)

Pin Stripe:
-note-: This can be surface crocheted, but I find I have more control with the following method with this project.

With Red, chain 25, leave a really long tail (about 18”) to back stitch the chain onto the side of the first leg. Repeat for second leg. Weave in ends.

Baseball Pocket:

Round 1: With White and 5.0mm (H-8) hook, make adjustable loop, ch 2, dc 8 in loop. Join with sl st to first dc. (8 sts)
Round 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each sts. Join with sl st to first dc. (16 sts)
Round 3: Ch 2, * 2 dc in next st, dc 1*; repeat from * to * around. Fasten off invisibly, leaving a long tail for appliqueing the pocket to the back of the pants. (24 sts)

Embroidering:
Using the photo as a guide place two half circles of back-stitched Red to either side of the baseball; then add in the sides of the “v” to each st to complete the famous baseball stitching. Fasten off, weave in all ends.

Apply the finished pocket to the right side of the back of the pants, I used this time to cover the awkward seam that happens when working in the round at the joins. Make sure to leave a tiny opening at the top for the little guy or gal to put a keepsake from the big game. Enjoy you are done!
